Glassfiber rebar(GFRP rebar), commonly referred to as Fibreglass reinforcement, is a high tensile strength alternative to steel reinforcement. GFRP is made by weaving high quality glassfibre into a fabric before being impregnated with polymers and formed into a round bar. The key overwhelming benefit of GFRP reinforcing bar is it’s resistance to corrosion. Rust is a major risk to steel reinforcing in concrete structures located in high corrosion environments such as near saltwater or chemicals. Fiberglass reinforcing is highly resistant to corrosion and can extend the lifespan of concrete structures enormously.
