China’s total output of glass fiber yarn has reached 6.24 million tons

In 2021, the total output of glass fiber yarn in mainland China has reached 6.24 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.2%. Considering that the industry’s output growth rate in 2020 has only be 2.6% due to the impact of the pandemic, the average growth rate for two years is 8.8%.

According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, in the wake of China’s low carbon development strategy, domestic demand has surged for new energy vehicles, energy-saving buildings, electronic appliances, wind power and new energy. This year, various types of glass fiber yarns, such as direct yarn, ply yarn, thermoplastic yarn, wind power yarn, electronic yarn and industrial spun yarn, have been in short supply and prices have risen in turn, says the Bureau. 

In 2021, the total output of Chinese kiln yarn has reached 5.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.5%. “Affected by the continuous price increase of various types of glass fiber yarns since 2020, the domestic glass fiber production capacity expansion remains strong, but under the influence of China’s continuous implementation of strict energy consumption policy, some new construction or cold repair expansion projects of pool kilns had to be postponed”, China’s National Bureau of Statistics noted. 

Despite this, the number of newly-built and cold-repaired expanded pool kilns completed in 2021 will still reach 15, with an additional capacity of 902,000 tons. By the end of 2021, the production capacity of domestic pool kilns has exceeded 6.1 million tons, says the Bureau.
